a) Passage of stomach content retrograde into the esophagus
b) Passage of stomach content retrograde into the esophagus resulting in increased morbidity
c) Passage of stomach content retrograde into the esophagus resulting in irritability
d) Passage of stomach content retrograde into the esophagus not resolved by 6 months of age

Answer b. GER is defined as the passage of stomach content into the esophagus. The North American Society for Pediatric Gastroenterology and Nutrition defines GERD as clinically significant GER that causes morbidity.
