Answer

Answer d. Graft versus host disease is a function of an assault on the host by the donor immunologic system. As such, it only occurs following allogeneic transplants; in patients receiving autologous HSCT there is extremely low risk of GVHD (although the risk is not completely absent). Interesting, there is also a “graft-versus-tumor” effect, which explains the decreased malignancy recurrence rate following allogeneic as compared to autologous HSCT.
